The History Of Murano Glass

Click on this link for find the TRUE MURANO GLASS

Until now there was not been possible to determine precisely when to have originated from the glass industry in Venice.

One possible conjecture relates to the transfer of its first manifestations in
islands in the estuary of those Venetians who had lived in the flourishing Roman centers of the coastal Adriatic from Adria to Altino, and that they had learned the techniques of Roman glass. 982 goes back to a document signed by a certain Sunday that, as attested by the notary, had practiced the "fiolaro", ie the production of blown glass cables, particularly bottles, in fact "fiole.

The only evidence of the primitive phase of Venetian glass are made from fragments found in 1961-62, along with the remains of a furnace, especially in the excavations carried out in "Piazza" and fragments of Torcello, Murano returned from underground (S. Donato) well as from the waters of the lagoon. More recently, between 1992 and 1993 excavations conducted in the Square of Malamocco, a small town of Lido, have brought to light, along with fragments of pottery dating from the certainly late fourteenth and early fifteenth century, two glasses trunk cone and a bottle long neck and body paunchy dating to the same period and exhibited in this room. The art received a boost during the XII-XIV centuries, from contacts with the Levant, and particularly with Syria, Egypt and the territories of the Eastern Empire, following the events of war and trade. What is certain is that since the last decades of the thirteenth century until about the middle of the fourteenth, is documented in Murano also an activity decoration in enamel on glass (Gregorio da Napoli, Bartolomeo da Zara Donate).

Everyone now knows what was the reason that made the island of Murano glass par excellence: the threat of fire danger is not just, as most of the buildings were made of wood. And so it was that towards the end of 1200, by order of the Doge of Venice all the glass factories were moved to Murano, punishment for those who disobeyed, death. It 'easy to understand how, in addition to security, the goal was that of secrecy, to protect jealously the secrets of an art that brought so much wealth and prestige. So much so that those who leave the island to relocate themselves were subject to heavy punishments, including death.

The chandelier

While in the nineteenth century was highly decorated but preferred the chandelier often simplified in such a self-supporting glass spiral arms, in the twenties of this century the Murano glass makers and designers of the models proposed essential, in which there had more wealth decorative but
elegance and novelty of the profile. Many designers have ventured to from that decade in the design of the Murano chandelier, but has never waned, the market demand towards the "lock" of eighteenth-century or failed the skills of glassmakers in Murano shaping the delicate elements.
If the chandelier is a great decoration very spectacular, since the thirties, from time to time, have prevailed in other types of lighting glass, light sources that is more discreet and non-core.
Pendant lamps, wall lamps, table lamps or stem in the most refined tones, monochrome or watermark, to murrina, Gold and silver leaf to create soft lighting and intimate atmosphere that only handmade glass can give.

Pearls Vitree

The simplest glassy beads are "beads, beads, round or sharp edge obtained by cutting hollow tubes rolled into the furnace for the length of tens of meters. Their value lies in the vivid colors and brightness.
The area in which, however, stands out manual dexterity of the artisans of Venice, the "pearls" - because they are usually women - is one of the pearl worked on "light". A glass tube is not perforated, also pulled manually into the furnace, is softened in the heat of the fire that comes out
a torch fueled by gas. The Perler wraps around a barrel metal tube, giving the pearl the desired shape and decorating polychrome glass.
There are three main types of pearls in a light: the pearl "underground" the pearl millefiori, the pearl decorated with the "heights". The pearl gray derives its value from the superimposition of glassy layers of various colors, by using different rods, often with the inclusion of Gold and silver leaf.

Since then the pot, generally the decorative object Murano, and the tableware has been placed as the most requested pieces of decorative art in the world. In Murano, under the blown glass, were designed and are still used some of the most important decorative techniques but between all the watermark occupies probably the most important place. Both the type that the type retortoli reticello, of sixteenth-century origin, as well as more recent variants, create the effect of a delicate lace in the glass wall. The watermark can also be combined with other techniques, such as' Incalmo ", the decoration applied to wires, the" black economy ", even to ancient tradition murrine.Nella the project was due to the glassmaker or entrepreneur, if equipped with taste. Today, some teachers are still, as is traditional to play the role of creator-performer but now since the twenties of our century, the designer is present in glassware.
